Christopher Griffith

My process has always focused on simplicity. Initially in photography and now in painting, my work employs varied forms of graphic minimalism in a need to communicate ideas in the most reductive forms. FOURPLAY combines my impulse towards graphic minimalism with simple words to create a dialogue using a limited vocabulary.

Communication with only four letter words places gravity to the meaning and possible rationale to why it has been selected. We live in an era of incessant commentary on platforms that were scarcely available a generation ago resulting in an ever pervasive use of words. Words can most certainly be used for enlightenment and educating, but equally they have become vehicles for intolerance and the spread of misinformation.

FOURPLAY presents abstractions of single words, that once fully realised confronts the viewer to question their perception of words and how they employ them in their own lives.
