Coming from a lifelong fascination with sketching and drawing Maurice Joss started his painting career with transferring figurative elements from his drawings to the canvas to create dark, dystopian and critical scenes. Maintaining the camouflage-like style that he had developed over the years he turned his interest to examine how the concrete is constituted as opposed to the abstract and the oscillating line between the two. By zooming in on digital imagery he finds the source for the exploration of shapes, areas and colour and creates works that leave the viewer in the ambiguity between concrete and abstract. Central to his rhythmic and expressive style are a varying intensity and thickness of the colours that create a captivating visual experience beyond meaning.
