Abi Giltinan’s work spans painting, drawing and ceramics. Giltinan is concerned with the conflicts of human sensations. Ethereal collages, paintings and works on paper are a whirlwind of colourful figurations that blend together through abstraction. Giltinan explores the dualities between pleasure and fear, chaos and harmony, fluidity and rigidity. Desire is the central theme and epitome of Giltinan’s work, expressed through an energetic visual language that depicts a yearning of various forms; be it sexual lust, an insatiable hunger or a never-ending quest for power. Ambiguous nude figures are seduced and haunted by their desires. They overlap, twist, float and bend to their will, overshadowed by visions that shift in and out of focus.
