Mark Metcalfe
Lives and works in London, UK

Mark Metcalfe’s paintings incorporate archetypal characters, themes and motifs that reinterpret existing stories in the collective memory. His works often challenge fixed ideas around trust, faith and the unknown. In some works, Metcalfe uses religious iconography painted in classical realist techniques. In others, Metcalfe references Fauvist, quasi psychedelic palettes of archetypal heroes, tricksters and bizarre phenomena. His recent paintings are centred around mythological narratives that involve fallen deities, temptation, and moral descent.
