Tin Nguyen
Born in Vietnam | Lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, USA

“A lot of my subconscious pulls through when I’m painting, which I discover after it’s finished. I don’t plan or overly conceptualise what I want to make. It becomes a more meditative practice in which I learn and inquire about myself through painting.”

Vibrational, juicy, thick colour encapsulates the intricacies of light in Tin Nguyen’s intimate self portraits, domestic spaces and landscapes. Nguyen embraces the aesthetic beauty of everyday self exploration, quiet still life, and natural scenes from his travels. Contemplation of purpose, non-conformity, and self empowerment shine through the beautiful, meditative moments that Nguyen’s inquires about in his paintings. Nguyen invites the spectator to glimpse personal perspectives of his body and his identity as a queer asian man in New York City through subtle branding signifiers and gestures. His paintings celebrate beauty, whether that’s found in sexual undertones of self, a sense of belonging in the home, or the discovery of locations representing a new found freedom and exploration as an artist.
