Iva Laterza (b.1986, Dubrovnik, Croatia) lives and works in London, UK. She is currently pursuing an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London. Upcoming exhibitions include a group exhibition at Propositions Studios in London, and in 2022 a solo exhibition at Sponza Palace in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Her work evolved across the fields of paintings and photography by developing a visual language of abstract forms found in elements of architecture and graffiti. Her paintings are inspired by the urban environment and investigate the visual experience of colour, light, space and architecture. The exploration of commitment, focus, and endurance are often captured in the ambiance of her paintings, creating a powerful, mechanical, delicate and emotional design. Her work deals with the exploration of colour through continuous repetition and experimentation with colour relativity and how colour changes through placement, juxtaposition and interaction with other colours. Besides aesthetics, more broadly she is interested in the layers of personal, historical, social and political narratives that are tied to her Balkan background.
