Sara Christova

Sara Christova (b. Sofia, Bulgaria) lives and works between Cardiff, Wales, and Sofia, Bulgaria. Her distinctive work features gently surrealist landscapes and compositions that explore themes of introspection and the processes of dreaming and memory. By analysing her environment, whether deliberately or subconsciously, and then deconstructing her experience, she creates compositions built upon the echo of the visible. Her recent paintings bounce between fauvist episodes, modernist scenes, increasingly surreal elements, hyperbole and allegory, where the most common denominator is reflection.

She has a degree in Illustration from the Cardiff School of Art & Design, 2016. Her work has appeared in multiple international collective shows, in Wales, Bulgaria and Japan (e.g. Millennium at the National Palace of Culture, Sofia, and Under The Counter Culture by underground art collective Tactile BOSCH in Tokyo and Kyoto); and that year presented an installation at the National Museum Cardiff for Museum Lates: Space. She did her first official solo exhibition Stillness In Motion, in 2019.
