Cristina Rago is a Filipino American multidisciplinary artist born in New York in 1993. Her work is about resolving identity after experiencing a loss of self in the waves of complex PTSD. The materials and imagery evoke a lack of discrepancy between past and present, reality and the surreal. She explores visual dissociation and psychic repression while seeking integration of the self within the complexities of familial, cultural, and personal identity. Throughout her painting process, she uses inks, acrylics, and pastels, painting with an intuitive and energetic approach. She uses a variety of acrylic mediums and textile materials to satiate her need for layering and texture within her work.
